Landon Hood

 

Landon Hood Wins AZ Gatorade Player Of The Year

June 3, 2025 – Senior Landon Hood compiled a 12-2 record on the mound with a 0.80 ERA and 138 strikeouts against just 10 walks in 88 innings, leading the Jaguars (30-5) to the Class 5A state championship game this past season. The state’s Class 5A Player of the Year, Hood held opponents to a .160 batting average. He also hit .409 with a .480 on-base percentage.

Jaguars Win H.A. Hendrickson Award

May 31, 2025 – Canyon View High School has been awarded the H.A. Hendrickson Award for the 2024-25 season, recognizing it as the state’s top overall athletic program in the 5A conference. Canyon View’s standout year included four state championships — in boys wrestling, girls basketball, flag football and girls track and field. The Jaguars were also state runners-up in baseball and reached the semifinals in both softball and boys basketball.

Girls Track & Field Runs It Back

May 13, 2025 – The Canyon View girls track & field team held off a strong challenge from North Canyon to capture their second straight Division II State Championship at Red Mountain High School.

Girls Basketball Goes Back-To-Back

March 8, 2025 – The Lady Jags captured their second consecutive 5A state girls basketball title with a hard-fought 44-40 victory over Raymond S. Kellis.

Wrestling Repeats As State Champs

February 23, 2025 – The Canyon View boys wrestling team captured their second consecutive DII Wrestling State Championship in dominating fashion. The Jaguars scored 239 points, which was well ahead of second place Campo Verde who scored 120.5.

Gabe Ramirez Makes It A Clean Sweep

February 23, 2025 – Gabe Ramirez captured his fourth consecutive state wrestling title, becoming the first wrestler in the history of the Agua Fria School District to accomplish this feat. Also winning individual state titles were Christopher “C.J.” Ramirez, Breidyn Ralls, Matthew “Ben” Krawczenko and Charles Laws-Albano.

November 23, 2024 – Canyon View beats Mountain Pointe 34-14 to win 2024 5A girls flag football state championship.

Annaleise Taylor Wins AZ Gatorade Player Of The Year

June 27, 2024 – Annaleise Taylor was named the Arizona Gatorade Player of the Year for Girls Track and Field for the 2024 season. The Oregon-bound Taylor had a breakout season, running 41.09 seconds in the 300-meter hurdles for the second-fastest time in Arizona history in the prelims at the AIA State Championships. She won the state title in 41.15.

May 5, 2024 – The Canyon View girls track team continued this year’s historic run by edging out North Canyon to capture the Division II State Track & Field Championship.

Kaleel Galloway Wins State Title

May 5, 2024 – Kaleel Galloway wins the 400 meter hurdles at the Division II State Track & Field Championships with a time of 48.25. He also helped lead the boys 4x100 meter relay team to a 2nd place finish.

Girls Basketball Captures State Title In OT

March 2, 2024 – The Jaguars battled back to beat Sunrise Mountain 49-41 in overtime to capture the first girls basketball state championship in program history.

Five Wrestlers Capture Individual Titles

February 18, 2024 – Gabe Ramirez, Christopher "C.J." Ramirez, Giovanni Martinez Chavez, Giosue Hickman and Sir Friday all captured state titles at the 2024 Division II State Wrestling Championships.

Wrestling Wins First Team Championship

February 18, 2024 – Canyon View held off Kofa 217 to 160 to capture the first team championship in program history. The Jaguars were led by junior Gabriel Ramirez (120) who won his third championship. The Jaguars had five state champions and 10 placers.

Varvel Wins 300 Hurldes

May 9, 2023 – Junior sprinter Santino Varvel won the 300 meter hurdles at the Division II Track & Field Championships, capturing the first individual track trophy in Canyon View history. Varvel clocked a 39.17 in the event, which was just ahead of a pair of Mountain Pointe hurdlers.

McGinty Wins Singles State Title

May 2, 2023 – Zaria McGinty won the first ever individual singles tennis championship in Canyon View history when she defeated Sasha Tijore of Ironwood 7-6, 6-1 at the Paseo Racquet Center.

February 23, 2023 – Senior Skyler Hickman completed his high school career by winning back-to-back state championships and sophomore Gabe Ramirez won his second straight title to lead Canyon View.

May 17, 2022 – Canyon View’s baseball program received the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA) Sportsmanship Award on May 17, 2022 at Diablo Stadium. As voted on by AIA officials, this prestigious team award exhibits the highest level of sportsmanship throughout the 5A Conference.

February 22, 2022 – Skyler Hickman and Gabe Ramirez won the 126 pound and 106 pound weight class respectively at the Division II State Championships.

Monroy And Roles Capture First State Title

May 3, 2021 – Juniors Maddie Monroy and Kambra Roles made history by winning the Division II Doubles Championship. This is the first state title in Canyon View history.

Varsity Football Secures First Win

October 9, 2020 – Canyon View defeated Maricopa 17-12 for the first win in program history. Ashton Zacher had two touchdown passes and the defense responded with multiple sacks en route to the win.

Dec. 5, 2019 – The Lady Jags varsity soccer team won their first ever varsity game, beating Buckeye Union by a score of 6-2.
